6 Ways to Strengthen Your Relationship with God
Do you want to strengthen your relationship with God? Do you ever feel like sometimes it’s hard to draw closer to Him?Today we’re diving into different ways to strengthen your relationship with God. While this isn’t an all encompassing list, I think ALL of these are important, so let’s dive in.
This really can be summed up into Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
What can that look like? Actually pursuing Him, loving Him, learning more about Him.
Let’s break that into 6 ways.
1) Ask
In Luke 17:5, the disciples ASKED for more faith.
In Colossians 1:9-10, we see that Christians pray for more knowledge and wisdom and understanding of the Spirit.
2) Read your Bible
It is so important. God’s Word contains His plans, His heart, His commands, His hand in history, His ways.
I have found that having a good reading plan helps with consistency in this area, and if you’re struggling with consistency, I’d recommend the same for you! There are plenty of solid reading plans out there you can check out. I have Bible Reading Plans for every single day so that you have something you can always be reading. These Bible Reading Plans are available for Bonus Content Subscribers. Bonus Content Subscribers have access to these Bible Reading Plans, all the digital Bible Studies, weekly bonus, exclusive podcast episodes, and a shop code for $5.99/month.
Another way to support your Bible reading is to dive into Bible studies or commentaries!
Setting a time aside you’re dedicated to, falling in love with this time by adding something like your favorite cup of coffee are also great ways to help with consistency.
If setting aside 30 minutes doesn’t feel feasible right now, listening to Scripture with the Dwell App is another great way to spend time with the Lord and dive into His Word. Here’s a linnk for up to 30% off: dwellapp.io/shelives.
3) Pray
Pray before reading the Bible, while driving, throughout your day. I’ve been praying a lot more lately out of both a realization of how much I need God but also how much He wants me to come to Him.
4) Read Christian Books
This is a great way to grow in the knowledge of Christ.
And here are some of my favorites / ones I’d recommend.
- Why Grace Changes Everything
- Gentle and Lowly
- Goliath Must Fall
- The Screwtape Letters
- Suffering by Paul David Tripp
5) Go to church and Bible studies for fellowship
This is actually a command in Scripture and something we’re aiming to do more and more.
6) Repent of sin and obey
In Ephesians 4:20-24 it says this: “But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
We are called to, commanded to, obey and repent of sin.
In Deuteronomy 11:1 we see that obedience and love are side by side.
In John 15:14 Jesus says, “you are my friends if you do what I command.”
And in John 14:15 He says, “if you love Me, keep my commands,.”
How can we grow in our walk with God if we’re not loving God?
Now we’ll never be perfect in action and never love God how we SHOULD, but we are called to do this and we are told this is how He knows we love Him.

I love these details we get in letters like these, and here’s one big reason why: Even Paul was unsure his plans and was redirected. He was unsure how he’d be received in Jerusalem and Judea. He had plans to go to Spain and HOPED to see the romans, but wasn’t sure...
Romans 15:14-21
Honestly - this hit me. “For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me.” May we not boast in things we did in our own strength. Let’s allow God to move in us and let what HE is doing be what we boast about.
