season 2, episode 25

Is there such a thing as absolute truth?

This question is truly summed up to or broken down to: is anything true? Because if something is true, that is absolute and if nothing is true then what are we here for? Why do we exist? What are we living for? If it’s not true, it is a … lie.

More often than not, this question comes in when we’re talking about all things faith: is there a such thing as absolute truth?

When it comes to faith, why can’t we all believe our own things?

    1. Well, for ONE, if the argument is to say that we can all believe our own things then theoretically that would be ABSOLUTELY true but that’s besides the point – why does there need to be one thing that’s true?
    2. We have to come from somewhere. That is true. There has to be something that happens when we die. That is true. There probably should be a reason to life. That is probably true. What is the one area that aims to answer those questions? Religion or science.
    3. Why can’t we just believe whatever we want? Why does one thing have to be true? Well every belief system contradicts each other in some way – SO the option that everything or anything goes can’t be the RIGHT answer because they all contradict. If I say you can be Christian or Muslim, the Christian or Muslim if they actually follow that faith would say that’s incorrect BECAUSE the two contradict each other and they contradict Buddhism, Hinduism, New Ageism, etc. So you can’t have it all or any because if you actually want to claim any of them you have to just choose one because they contradict each other.
    4. As a Christian, Christ demands to be known as the only way – and if you follow Christ, truth isn’t up to you to decide. It’s up to Him.

  1.  I think so often we decide that we are indeed the leaders of what is true. We absolutely declare that it is absolutely true that there is no absolute truth.

  1. Sometimes we say that God would want this without referring to what He says in His own Words and in doing so.

  1. We become the leader of our own new faith, our own religion, and call ourselves Christians when in reality we’re not because we’re making up our own rules – rules that CONTRADICT the faith we claim we’re under.

  1. We say many roads lead to heaven or we can’t tell others they’re wrong and why? Who said? Instagram? Your professor? Here is your PERMISSION to seek it out for yourself.

  1. If you claim to be a Christian, NO WHERE does Christ say whatever you wanna do go for it and you’re in.
  2.
  3. No he says:
    1. I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
    2. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
    3. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:9
    4. I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” John 8:24
  4. And if you’re not a Christian and taking a look at all religions, it would be irresponsible of you and the people who told you to believe that there is no truth without studying what everyone else believes – because if everything goes, NOTHING goes. Every religion contradicts itself.

  1. And if you hold that none of those religions are right because there is not absolute truth are you absolutely right on that? Wouldn’t that be absolutely true? SOMETHING has to be right – we have to align ourselves with SOME belief we agree with but because they all contradict each other only ONE THING can be true – even if none of them are, that’s then the truth.

  1. So we learn that there has to be some truth — I happen to believe it is the Christian God. Here’s why:
    1. Revelations – people with unbelievable stories of seeing Jesus or angels or visions or what have you telling them about the gospel – not just people in the Bible but in TODAY’S day and age
    2. Prophecies – the amount of prophecies fulfilled by Jesus from the Old Testament, which is miraculous that prophecies are even fulfilled that by itself is SUPERNATURAL. Mathematics & astronomy professor Peter W Stoner made a statement that the chances of just 8 prophecies coming true by sheer chance is 1 in 10 17ths (100,000,000,000,000,000). That would be equivalent to covering the whole state of Texas with silver dollars two feet deep and then expecting a blindfolded man to walk across the state and on the very first try find the ONE coin you marked (roughly equivalent to the Province of Ontario being 1.5 feet deep). BUT there are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament that point directly to the Messiah (aka the savior talked about in Judaism). Jesus fulfills them ALL. All this information can be found (as well as each prophecy and their fulfillment in Jesus)
    3. Miracles – all of Jesus’s miracles that historically have MANY witnesses. Not to mention miracles TODAY that happen by prayer.
    4. My personal testimony and relationship with God. On many occasions, God has MET me. He has healed my heart and mind, freed my from doubt, and has been my companion. He has proven to me time and time again that He is real. I will stand by what I KNOW to be true forever.

Mini Devo Romans 16

Often we can read the Bible like these vague stories but here are a list of specific people - men and women - that Paul wants to greet.  Just like you and I, this letter was written by and received by real people in the church, the body of Christ - real sinners...

Mini Devo Romans 15:22-33

I love these details we get in letters like these, and here’s one big reason why: Even Paul was unsure his plans and was redirected. He was unsure how he’d be received in Jerusalem and Judea. He had plans to go to Spain and HOPED to see the romans, but wasn’t sure...

Romans 15:14-21

Honestly - this hit me. “For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me.” May we not boast in things we did in our own strength. Let’s allow God to move in us and let what HE is doing be what we boast about.

Mini Devo Romans 15:8-13

Can I pray this same prayer we read in this passage over you right now? God, I pray that You, the God of hope would FILL this community will ALL JOY and PEACE in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit they may ABOUND in HOPE.
