How to Pursue God in Busy Times

This past year has been one of the busiest seasons of my life, so when I was asked about How to Pursue God in Busy Times on Instagram, I KNEW I had to answer.

Listen as we talk about 2 tips to pursuing God in busy times and the emphasis that scripture puts on doing just that.

First things first, it’s understandable that we struggle in this area. It happens to all of us, there is no condemnation.

God wants your heart and time.

Here are some verses that show us the importance of spending time with God:
⁃ Matthew 6:33 But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
⁃ Matthew 6:6 But WHEN you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
⁃ Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
⁃ 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
⁃ John 15:1-5 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
⁃ Psalm 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
⁃ Mark 1:35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

Here’s 2 tips:
1. Make it a priority. Reading your Bible, worshiping, praying, pursuing God should be a nonnegotiable. We can do nothing without Christ, and without Christ we are missing out on the abundance and fullness of His spiritual blessings. We are missing out on communing with God Himself. So make it a priority. If that means setting an earlier time to wake up, maybe blocking out your lunch break to read, maybe it’s listening to sermons and worship ONLY in the car, maybe it’s setting up a night time routine that includes spending time with God. Scheduling in and prioritizing spending time with God can sound less glorious and spiritual BUT it’s not and if it’s helpful to use that way to make Bible reading a priority in your life, DO IT.
2. Remember that He is the reason you’re everything exists. Keeping this thought at the forefront of your mind whether it’s by simply remembering or writing it down or setting a reminder on your phone, will help you remember not only that you should be spending time with Jesus but giving you the reason and extra motivation behind it. Let that be part of the motivation that causes you to meet with Him. You get to to meet with the God who gives you your life and runs the world.
