why purpose is for today
how to be a light where you are
When I married my husband, I did this crazy thing!
I moved to the Middle East. We worked with refugees, and the work there was truly amazing.
God blessed us with incredible opportunities, and He did miracles. It was the type of ministry you read about in books.
But something I took away from that time of being a missionary overseas is you don’t need to be a missionary overseas.
A lot of people think missionaries are those who leave their own country and go somewhere completely remote, somewhere no one else would want to go.
They sacrifice their comforts and endure difficulty and struggle to reach a completely foreign people group who need Jesus.
But the truth is WE ALL NEED JESUS.
A big problem with where we’re at right now is that we choose not to take the opportunities – opportunities to be a light for Jesus. We don’t see the chances to share the Gospel because we’re so familiar with the setting and so busy with our own lives.
It’s your choice to live an ordinary life and wait to be sent somewhere to do God’s will, or you can be a light exactly where you are.
Jesus will give you the strength, but our hearts need to be ready and eager to be a missionary for Him wherever that may be.
Where God has you right now is EXACTLY where He wants you to be ministering. Be open to be used.
I’m a firm believer that God has gifted us all with talents that are there to glorify Him.
What’s your talent?
Is it writing? Then write about Jesus. Is it singing? Sing for Him. Is it speaking? Speak of Him. Is it serving others? Serve others unto Him.
Whether your talents are creative or practical, if you ask God how you can use your gifts for His glory, He will show you HOW!
If you ask Him for the opportunities, He will provide them.
We don’t have to be half way across the world.
The mission field is here, now, where you’re at!
He wants to use you—where you’re at! He wants the talents He’s given you to bring glory to HIS NAME—in the situation you’re currently in.
So, I encourage you today to pray and seek His purpose for your life in the here and now. To ask God how you can serve Him on the mission field He currently has you in. How you can use your talents to draw people to His heart. Ask Him to change your perspective so you can see opportunity to be a witness for Christ, even in the most normal of settings.
God wants to use you. He’s excited to use you! He’s calling you today.
Don’t forget that you’re a missionary for Jesus Christ.
