How are we using the gift of time
One Life, One Shot
One shot.
I think a huge motivator for purpose in a lot of the stories I’ve heard, and have been able to use this platform to tell, is this idea that we have one life to live.
And how we live it actually matters.
One life to live. It can seem like such a cliché idea, but the first thing that comes to my mind is this feeling. A feeling of pressure, of an end.
It makes me think of the billions who have come and gone before us. The names we know and the names no one will remember.
Both of which could have used their one shot for better or for worse.
It makes me think that years from now, whether it’s decades, centuries or millenniums, will the things I have done mattered? Will I be remembered, and, if so, how? If not, will the way I have used my time been worthwhile or will it have been wasted? Will my mark on humanity be a waste of breath or will I contribute to this timeline? Will my existence actively bring glory to the One who holds all of time in His hands? Will it be used the way the One who created time suggests I use it?
We can use it for good or for evil, to hurt or to heal, to take or to contribute, to love or to hate, to grow or to coast.
Depending on our beliefs, we can use it to impact this world or we can also use it to affect the next.
I read this sentence in my journal – written over a year ago: “YOUR time is a gift from God, by God that you’ll one day have to give an account for. The time you have, the years you have are not yours.”
One shot.
“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12
We can break it down into decades, into years, into weeks, into days, into hours, into minutes, and we should.
Because we should use it wisely.
Will we get every minute right? Absolutely not.
But at the end of it all, will I be afraid to give an account for the time I have given? Will I have abused this gift?
Let’s pour into today, into our lives, all that we can to make the best use of the gift we have been given.
XO,
Meg
